Konami of Europe has announced the online gameplay modes for their forthcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 5. The game will be online on PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC, and will have support for up to four players. Players will also be able to set up leagues with friends from all over the world. The PSP version won’t feature online play, but will have local wireless play.

We are delighted that Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is heading online,” commented Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of Product Management for Konami of Europe. “Sports games are ideal online fare, and we have worked hard to ensure that the skill and playability of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 have not been compromised in its multi-player online modes.”

We just hope that the game doesn’t suffer from the lag problems that plagued last year’s Xbox version of Pro Evo 4. Lag-free online play on all formats could make any already great game even better.

Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is due for release in late October.
