Gamasutra reports that Kim Swift, a designer of the critically acclaimed Portal, has left Valve to join Dark Void developer Airtight Games.

Swift takes the role of project lead and will “build and lead a team in the development of games aimed at a more diverse audience”.

Airtight Games president Jim Deal stated that Swift’s appointment “represents a strategic move… into new and broader gaming markets”.

Swift commented: “I’ve learned so much and had some amazing experiences at Valve, but when I heard I had the opportunity to work on innovative titles with my friends over at Airtight, I couldn’t pass it up.”

Airtight’s first title, Dark Void, is scheduled for release on January 15 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
