Speaking about PC and console sales numbers in interview with Gamasutra, Newell said “we can never predict; I mean we just try to build good games and then we tend to be surprised.”
While Valve does not make a habit of releasing sales data for Steam, Newell said that “Portal 2 did better on the PC than it did on the consoles; Left 4 Dead did better on the consoles than it did on the PC.”
“So you know we don’t try to guess,” he added “because we’re not sure what value there is to guessing. We’ve never had a situation where we said, “We really, really want to build something that is more popular for the console guys.” Because usually we have a bunch of other higher priority problems we want to solve. So we’re glad that people want to play our games wherever they want to play.”
Portal 2 is one of the four games released in 2011 that have scored a perfect 10/10 from VideoGamer.com.
I was having a cocktail-induced chat about Portal 2 with someone from another publication (even though we’re sworn enemies, obviously) over the weekend and it reminded me of how much I love Portal 2. My analysis, then, is that I am all about Portal 2. I own the PS3 version.
