Valve has announced an in-game map editor for Portal 2, due for release early next year. Which probably means about 2014, knowing Valve.

This major update will feature an easy-to-use in-game map editor that will let users design, build and share their own single-player and co-op test chambers with the community, who will be able to view, play and vote on them with a simple click.

Completed levels can be viewed and shared with the Portal 2 community, which can vote on their favourites. Valve set the groundwork for the latter in its recent Peer Review DLC.

Valve has not made it clear whether the DLC will be available on the 360, PS3 and PC or just the latter. Peer Review was available on all three platforms.

The in-game map editor will be “easy-to-use” claims Valve in its press release, but it don’t say whether that’s easy to use for geniuses or regular stupid people like me. And perhaps you.

Portal 2 is one of the most recent entrants into the exclusive VideoGamer.com 10/10 club. You can find out why in our Portal 2 review.
