Beta of the Portal 2 authoring tools has been made available for free download to everyone who has purchased Portal 2 for PC, according to the official Portal 2 blog.
The beta can be accessed in Steam under the Tools tab. This will include versions of tools used for level and character creation in Portal 2, and will let users design single-player and co-op maps, 3D models, character skins, as well as music and sound effects.
Examples of maps to help with your own creations will also be included, as well as an updated version of Hammer, the source level editor.
