Docked naval strategy series Port Royale is about to raise anchor and sail again for the first time since 2004, publisher Kalypso Media has announced.

Developed by internal studio Gaming Minds, Port Royale 3 will be released for PC and “next generation consoles” in Q2 2012 – that’s sometime between April and June.

Port Royale is a strategy game set in the Caribbean during the 17th century. Players take on the role of a plundering adventurer or trading tycoon, with the former amassing wealth with daring raids and the latter by making effective use of trade routes and developing cities.

There’s also a free play option if you fancy a mixture of the two styles, and a multiplayer mode is being planned.

Two screenshots of the game have also been released.
