EA PopCap has made the decision to shut down the once hugely popular Facebook game Baking Life, reports Inside Social Games.
Back in August 2010 the game boasted 6.7 million monthly active users, but the game has slumped to only 760,000 monthly active users today.
Garth Chouteau, PopCap’s VP of communications told Inside Social Games: “Unfortunately, we had to make a very difficult decision to shut down the game. The Baking Life player numbers have dropped in such a way that Baking Life is no longer performing well enough to justify continued support. As such, we are reallocating resources to games that we are developing for future release.”
An in-game message has passed the news on to its players: “Baking Life will be going offline January 31st, 2012.”
The message adds: “We encourage you to spend your remaining Zip Cash before the game goes offline… All virtual currency and items will be inaccessible after this date.”
It’s not known how much money invested by players will be lost when the game closes.
