Nintendo’s Skylanders-like Pokémon Rumble U will be released in the UK on August 15, exclusively via the eShop.

Pokémon Rumble U tells the tale of the Toy Pokémon’s great adventure. After a mishap in the Toy Pokémon Shop, a few Pokémon capsules are swept down a river and washed up on a strange riverbank, sending them on a journey to find their way back to the Toy Pokémon Shop.

Players must help the Pokémon discover why some of the Toy Pokémon are fighting each other, and what the enemy Pokémon are plotting.

The game features all 649 Pokémon discovered up to Pokémon Black and White Version 2.

But there’s a catch: Bizarrely, Nintendo can’t currently confirm whether the figurines which support the game will be available when the title launches.

“We’re still working through the plans for the small number of figurines we plan to release, and will update people in due course,” reads a Nintendo statement given to MCV.

In Japan, the first set of figurines included Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Torchic, Piplup, Lucario, Victini, and one secret Pokémon. Each figure is priced around $2 and sold through capsule vending machines.

It seems odd that a game built with NFC tech in mind won’t launch with the toys, but could the lack of figures be related to the August 23 launch of Disney Infinity? Perhaps Nintendo felt pushing the NFC element for its title would lead to consumers having to make the decision of choosing one game or the other.
