Nintendo is set to enter the Skylanders toy and game market with the April 24 Japanese release of Pokemon Rumble U and seven supporting toys.

The Pokemon Rumble series focuses on battling, removing the RPG elements of the catch ’em all franchise.

The game will be available from the eShop, with toys sold in Pokemon Center stores. Players will be able to pick up six regular Pokemon character toys and one special figures – Pikachu is thus far the only confirmed character.

Toys will cost 200 Yen (around £1.40) and NFC tech means they will interact with the game presumably via the NFC technology in the Wii U GamePad.

Figures can be trained and their stats stored on them.

There’s currently no word on a European release for Pokemon Rumble U.
