Sony has announced updates to the PlayStation 4's party system that are in the works in a future system update on its blog.

The PlayStation Blog post notes that, as part of the changes, party sizes on the console will increase from a maximum of 8 players to 16 players. Furthermore, improvements to audio quality in voice chat are promised, as well as 'improved network connectivity'.

These updates are heading to the PlayStation Preview Program first, and sign-ups are being opened up soon. Bear in mind, if you do sign up to test these features, Sony say that you won't be able to join players who are not on the beta in their parties. However, succesful applicants will be able to use the code with 20 (!) different accounts, so you should be able to invite plenty of friends to try the improvements with you.

Sign ups are expected to open 'soon' and the update will rolls out to the general public at a yet-to-be announced point later in the year after the testing period concludes.
