PlayStation staff ‘blindsided’ by recent Sony and Microsoft Cloud partnership announcement

It seems last week's news that Microsoft and Sony are to work together on 'cloud based solutions for gaming experiences' was as much a surprise to many at PlayStation as it was to the rest of us.

A report today by Bloomberg claims that many on the PlayStation side of things were 'blindsided' by the news, even going so far as to report that workers at Sony's gaming division had to be reassured by managers and executives that the plans would not affect the current production of next generation hardware.

The report states that the talks and decisions that led to the agreement were entirely undetaken by high level staff, leaving lower workers on the totem pole in the dark. Sony are yet to confirm these details, but have said that exectuives that include PlayStation's Jim Ryan will update shareholders on the news tomorrow.

Interestingly enough, it seems that Nintendo were also themselves looking into using Microsoft Azure -MS' cloud platform at the center of this agreement – for their own streaming plans in limited markets, according to a tweet by analyst Dave Gibson:
