Sony is to put its PlayStation Network brand to sleep on February 8, with all PSN account holders being moved across to the new Sony Entertainment Network (SEN).
The name change will coincide with an update for PS3 and PS Vita.
“After you update the system software on your PS3 or PS Vita, you will notice that PlayStation Network accounts have been renamed Sony Entertainment Network accounts. This change will not affect the naming of PlayStation Network accounts when viewed on a PSP system,” said Sony.
“This account change is a change in name only. You do not have to do anything and your username and password will not change.
“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
Sony also points out that your SEN account enables use of Sony’s non-game services such as Music Unlimited, Video Store of PlayStation Store and PlayMemories Online (previously called Personal Space) across a variety of network-connected devices.
