PlayStation in Japan has released a delightful little video celebrating twenty years since the Ape Escape franchise was launched over there, as well as an official Ape Escape 20th anniversary Twitter account.

The video, which you can see below, is a delightful piece of Japanese oddity, introduced – naturally – a man dressed up as one of the titular monkeys from the series before taking us through a history of the ape-catching franchise since its Japanese release twenty years ago on this day: June 24, 1999. (It was released on 31st May in the US, and July 2 in the EU, fact fans.)

In addition, a new official Twitter account has gone live in the series' native Japanese with a tweet featuring a monkey hiding in a forest, which initially led to speculation a new Ape Escape game could be on the way. Though there's no news about that as of yet, the account has announced a special pop-up event will be taking place to celebrate the anniversary from July 19 through to August 1 in Tokyo, Japan.

Josh recently got all nostalgic for the Ape Escape series, capturing his thoughts in a big metaphorical net for you to read here.
