PlayStation Home is shutting down on March 31, 2015, but anyone who believes the service was not a commercial success for some of its developers is way off the mark.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, nDreams CEO Patrick O’Luanaigh revealed his studio generated seven-figure revenues for years by releasing content for PS Home, and they weren’t alone.

“People say that Home was a commercial failure but we generated seven-figure revenues for several years from Home, and other studios did as well,” O’Luanaigh explained. “Try telling us that it wasn’t successful.”

Fellow UK studios Lockwood and Veemee also “owe their existence to PlayStation Home,” says O’Luanaigh.

He concluded: “I remain totally convinced that some company, someday soon, is going to create a virtual world that grows larger than Facebook. And when they do, someone will look back at PlayStation Home and say, ‘They were that close…'”
