Speaking yesterday at the ELSPA International Games summit it was revealed that no launch timing has been decided for the European launch of the PlayStation 3. SCEE president David Reeves said in response to launch speculation. “I don’t think anyone has given a timing on the next generation in Europe… You could be in for a surprise.“
After giving this somewhat open statement he went on to say that he “would like to think” that the European PlayStation 3 will launch on SCE president Ken Kutaragi’s Spring 2006 timeline.
Despite giving hints to the PlayStation 3’s European launch Reeves went on to explain that the final decision on a launch date in Europe will not come for some time and suggested that Europe would be the last to get the next-gen console as is the norm with Sony. He added that for now SCEE is focused on the current generation PlayStation 2 and PSP consoles.
“Our priority is PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. That’s where the money is for the next two years.“
It appears we may have a long wait ahead before any official European PlayStation 3 launch date is announced.
