Popular battle royale shooter Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is gearing up to launch its fourth season, with it going live on the test servers this week. And it seems Season 4 marks the addition of a full blown narrative thread added to the game.

As detailed on the PUBG website, Season 4 is headlined by some major visual upgrades to the game's original Erangel map, with new features added, more foilage and even so far as some redesigns to various areas. Tweaks to the game's vaulting system are promised too, as well as 'surprises for fans who want to know about the island'.

The newest Suvivor Pass also adds a bunch of new content, which you'll be able to earn from the launch of Season 4 through October 15, and an improved Mission Change system that now lets you swap out up to 3 daily missions for free. There's plenty of updates to the UI as well as a new Turntable item in the game that will let you play music.

Most pertiently however, is a brand new cinematic trailer that actually gives us a bit more fleshing out of the game's plot. Though Playerunknown's Battlegrounds does have something of a lore, this is certainly the first time it's been brought to the forefront like this, and you can see the trailer embedded below. There's no doubt some of this is to help set the stage for the upcoming narrtive-led game set in the PUBG universe from new sister studio Striking Distance.

Season Four is live on the test servers for PC now, and will be there a few weeks before Season Four's launch on PC on July 24, with a console release set for 'late Summer'. You can read the full extensive patch notes on the Playerunknown's Battlegrounds official website here.
