PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is getting the VW Camper Van

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is going to be adding three new vehicles to the game according to the game’s developer, Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene. In an AMA on Reddit, Greene spoke to fans about PUBG’s development, what features the developer is focusing on for the game’s launch, and even mentioned wanting to add a single-player mode (before swiftly debunking it). 

During the AMA, Greene was surprisingly candid about what the developer would be implementing into the game prior to and following launch. When Greene was asked which vehicles would be added to PUBG he said that we’d have to ‘wait and see’. Following a tweet from PlayerUnknown today, we now know what the first one will be. The new vehicle is reminiscent of the iconic Volkswagen Camper Van, and the mere sight of it makes me want to lob in my sleeping bag, grab a camping stove, some chicken fillets, and take to the wilds of Erangel. Obviously I’ll take some form of weapon as well, just in case.

There’s no news or clues about what the other two vehicles could be, but I’m sure we’ll get an update via Twitter in the near future. The addition of the VW Camper will be a welcome one, though in this instance it’ll no longer be a totem of the counterculture anti-establishment movement, or even peace and love. I’d like to see the Volkswagen Microbus Concept added next.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is due for a full release on PC in late 2017, followed by a ‘console launch exclusive’ release on Xbox One with Xbox One X enhancements.
