Microsoft has revealed that sci-fi strategy romp Halo Wars and its sequel are both going free-to-play this weekend as part of Xbox One's Free Play Days event.

The offer is open to Xbox Live Gold members and will be available until Sunday at 11.59pm PST. In addition to being able to take Halo Wars for a spin without spending a penny, Microsoft is also discounting both games on the Xbox Games Store by a massive 50%.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is going for just $10, while the Halo Wars 2 Standard Edition and Complete Edition will set you back $20 and $30 each, respectively.

Halo Wars takes Master Chief's popular sci-fi series and gives it a RTS makeover. The original game arrived ten years ago on Xbox 360, while Halo Wars 2 turned up back in 2017.

In more Halo-related news, the upcoming TV show has found itself a new director in Otto Bathurst.
