UPDATE: Following the publication of this story, a Microsoft spokesperson contacted VideoGamer.com to confirm that the information posted on GAME’s website is inaccurate and that pre-order customers will not be able to play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition one week ahead of release.

Instead, the game will simply be available to pre-load before unlocking on August 28.

ORIGINAL STORY: Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be available one week early for fans who pre-order the digital edition from GAME.

A product listing on the retailer’s website details when codes will be sent out for pre-download, and when fans will be able to start playing ahead of others.

“Customers who purchase Gears of War Ultimate Edition Prepurchase code will receive their codes after the 11th August 2015.

“Gears of War Ultimate Edition will then be available to download ahead of launch and become playable on the 21st August 2015,One Week Early!”

VideoGamer has contacted GAME for comment.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will include early access to the beta for Gears of War 4. It recently emerged that the Ultimate Edition was developed in less than 10 months, with The Coalition partnering with developers in six countries to complete the project.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition launches on Xbox One on August 28 and at a later date on PC.
