Speaking to SourceGaming at BitSummit in Japan, PlatinumGames Producer Atsushi Inaba was asked if Bayonetta herself would be the protagonist in a hypothetical Bayonetta 3 and Inaba expressed interest in making another game in the much-loved franchise.

‘I would like to make Bayonetta 3,’ Inaba said, laying his cards out on the table. ‘We’re talking within the company even now about what to do. But because we’re constantly talking about it, that actually makes it really hard to say. If we weren’t talking about it, we could just say something random or offhand, you know, but because we’re actually talking about it.’

On the topic of changing the game’s lead character, Inaba did say ‘There’s plenty of precedent for changing protagonists, and so that is something we discuss – do we want to keep the same one, have a different one, add new ones – but that’s certainly not anything I can say for sure at this point.’

While its only in the discussion phase, it’s promising that PlatinumGames are at least talking about a new Bayonetta. The first two are held up as some of the best examples of action games, so if we could get another one of those, that’d be lovely.
