Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has said that he’s “excited” Blizzard believes “there IS a business” in hero shooters following yesterday’s announcement that Overwatch’s beta is to begin the same day Gearbox ships rival shooter Battleborn.

“Well – s*** just got real,” Pitchford tweeted following Blizzard’s announcement. “Context:.. Blizz Doing [Overwatch] beta on Our Battleborn launch[.] Excited They Believe as we do there IS a Business[.] Competition IS real!”

Battleborn and Overwatch are both first-person shooters with MOBA elements in which players can compete in multiplayer matches as a variety of characters. Battleborn launches first on May 3, the same day Overwatch enters Early Access beta before arriving in full on May 24.

Battleborn, meanwhile, is due to get its own open beta “sometime” in April. Both games are scheduled to arrive on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
