- Phantom Blade Zero currently has no confirmed release date.
- S-Games has announced a Phantom Blade Zero demo will be available in 2024.
We might be waiting for a long time before we get a Phantom Blade Zero release date confirmation, but that shouldn’t stop you from being excited. While it might look like any other gritty and dark hack-and-slash game, there might be enough to set it apart from a slew of similar games we’ve already played before. Phantom Blade Zero is a new title developed by S-Game and it is going to be released on PS5 and PC. Let’s look at what we know about it, including trailers, combat, and more.
This year’s Summer Game Fest revealed a new trailer for Pgantom Blade Zero, showing off mostly gameplay footage – and it looks fantastic. Hands on will be available at Gamescom, among other conventions across the globe.
When is the Phantom Blade Zero release date?
The Phantom Blade Zero release date is currently unknown. Originally announced during a PlayStation showcase in 2023, we’ve not heard any updates or new information about when the game will be released. As it stands, all we’ve seen about Phantom Blade Zero is the three-minute announcement trailer and another trailer released in February which shows another slice of gameplay. As we’ve only seen a small amount of the game since its announcement, we speculate the release date is still a long way off, perhaps landing sometime in 2025 or 2026.

Is there a Phantom Blade Zero demo?
A demo for Phantom Blade Zero has been confirmed by the developers on Twitter. This news was shared as part of a second trailer, which featured an animated short and a brief window of gameplay at the very end. At the end of the trailer, the text at the bottom reads: “Peace and joy in the Year of the Dragon. More reveals plus a playable demo coming in 2024. Stay Tuned”. Gematsu reported the demo will be 30 minutes long.
The trailer in question was released in February 2024, coinciding with Chinese New Year, and since then we have not heard any new information about the game. There is also no word on when we can expect the demo, but perhaps we might see it released over the summer. While the demo is scheduled for 2024, the release date is still unknown for this upcoming game.
Phantom Blade Zero gameplay details
As it stands, we only have two trailers to go off of when it comes to the gameplay we can expect in Phantom Blade Zero. Fairly obviously, this game is a third-person action game, featuring fast combat that seems to be based on Chinese martial arts. The protagonist you take control of is called Soul, an elite assassin who serves an organisation called ‘The Order’. From the trailers, we’ve seen visceral melee combat, complete with parrying and a lot of vertical exploration that draws comparisons to FromSoftware’s Sekiro.
A lot of details about Phantom Blade Zero are still unknown. There are reports the game is a semi-open world, with tough boss fights, fast-paced melee fights and ranged combat, and an eccentric cast of characters. Elsewhere we’ve seen through trailers that there is some level of environmental destruction. Depending on the semi-open-world nature, we might expect some large maps to explore. Already, we can see Phantom Blade Zero leaning into a cinematic experience more than anything else. Once more info is revealed about the release and gameplay, we will be sure to update this section.
The bulk of the gameplay we’ve seen will no doubt draw plenty of comparisons to games currently out in the world. We have seen combat and visuals similar to Nioh, Wo Long, Ghost of Tsushima, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. With that said, the most recent trailer shows a minimal HUD, which indicates a stamina bar in the brief slices of in-game action it shows. While we wait for new footage, this is all we have to go on for now.
As per a report by mp1st.com, there is talk of a developer Q&A on the game’s official Discord server that answered some questions. We haven’t been able to validate this information and can’t find a working link to the Discord server in question, so we are unsure if these claims are true. Supposedly, S-Game confirmed, among other things, that Phantom Blade Zero would take “roughly 30-40 hours to complete”.
Mp1st also claims there was a confirmation of a multiplayer mode, with the developers reportedly saying: “Upon completing the story mode, players are presented with a plethora of endgame content that includes various multiplayer dungeons, boss rushes, rogue-like abysses, and more”. Take this information with a grain of salt, as it is currently an unconfirmed claim.
Phantom Blade Zero story and setting
Phantom Blade Zero is linked to another game made by the same developer, and it has been revealed that this game takes place in the Phantom World. This Phantom World happens to be the setting for Phantom Blade: Executioner and Rain Blood Chronicles. The trailer released in February, called Phantom Blade Zero “Year of the Dragon” special trailer: Rain and Blood, is a clear reference to this link between the games.
As per information from the Discord Q&A, we know that Phantom Blade Zero will be semi-open world with multiple paths, with the developers saying: “Not that kind of vast open world you need a horse to ride from point A to point B. But it does have multiple paths and some open world elements”. At the moment, we don’t know much else about the setting or story, other than the main character setting out on a revenge-filled story.
From the initial announcement trailer on the official PlayStation YouTube channel to the new anime trailer, we have only been given a slight glimpse into what we can expect. While we wait for further updates, we’ll be sure to keep this page up to date with all the new information about this game.
