PopCap Games has announced that its hugely successful game, Peggle, is to be released for Nintendo DS this winter.

Q Entertainment is working on bringing the game to the DS, which promises new features and new levels that cannot be found in existing PC, Mac or iPod versions of the game.

Peggle combines elements of pinball, pachinko and pool to create an addictive casual game experience different to anything else you’ve ever played. Players fire a silver ball from the top of the screen and must rely on the laws of physics to propel the ball downwards while ricocheting off orange and blue pegs.

“We at Q Entertainment are honoured to be working with PopCap and view this as a fun, exciting challenge – taking a very popular casual game and bringing it to a more hardcore audience on the DS,” stated Shuji Utsumi, Q’s co-founder and chief executive officer. “PopCap’s games are simple but addictive, and Peggle demonstrates that even a simple game can be extremely deep.”

The DS version of Peggle will also feature re-mastered input controls to take advantage of handheld’s unique control system.

Look out for more on Peggle DS over the coming months.
