US video games website GamePro has been speaking to Kevin Unangst, director of global marketing for Games for Windows, and Chris Donahue, director of business development for Games for Windows, about the upcoming version of Halo 2 for Windows Vista. Unangst told GamePro that he expects Halo 2 to be released “a little beyond [Windows Vista’s] launch,” and Donahue reaffirmed this, adding that the hit Xbox game would be released on PC “just after” the launch of Windows Vista.
The chances of cross platform online play between Xbox and PC gamers looks unlikely in Halo 2, with Unangst informing GamePro that such functionality would require “somebody to re-code the Xbox version.” Halo 2 on Vista is, however, said to be an improvement on the Xbox original, boasting DirectX 10 visuals and an inbuilt map editor and modding system.
With Vista now scheduled for release in Q1 2007, the wait for Halo 2 on the PC will have to go on a little longer.
