If you woke up this morning thinking it was PAYDAY, think again: Sony Online Entertainment has put back the launch until “later in October”.

The four-way co-op shooter, which rather resembles a bank-robbing variant of Left 4 Dead, was originally supposed to be out today. Unfortunately that won’t be the case now, as revealed in a post on the US PlayStation blog.

“SOE and the talented OVERKILL team have decided to push PAYDAY’s official launch day to later in October, ensuring the overall game quality and potential score for all heist team members,” writes Chris Sturr, executive director of business development at SOE.

The same posts reminds us that if you bought all four PlayStation Network Play titles – Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition, DeathSpank: The Baconing, BloodRayne: Betrayal and Renegade Ops – you’ll be getting PAYDAY: The Heist for free.

PAYDAY: The Heist was one of the few nice surprises at E3 this year, and the game’s clown-faced robbers (stolen, appropriately enough, from The Dark Knight) appear to have caught people’s attention.

There’s no mention of exactly when the game will be out now, but the delay won’t help it to stand out from the competition. By the end of the month, most people will have other, bigger titles in mind.
