After suffering a bit of a delay, Painkiller: Hell Wars is finally complete and will be on store shelves before the month is out. Developed by People Can Fly, Painkiller: Hell Wars is a fast-paced FPS, delivering hoards of enemies in a non-stop feast of carnage. Well, that’s what the PC game was like anyway.

We have an awesome action-packed Xbox game that we’re all proud of,” said Byron Gaum, Global Product Marketing Manager at DreamCatcher Games. “Even the external testing teams, who see a lot of games come through their studio, were absolutely blown away by the fast-paced action, especially in multiplayer. This is the game that Painkiller and Xbox action fans have been waiting for!

In the game you play as Daniel Garner, a man stranded in purgatory, and must battle to obtain purification and prevent the forces of good and evil from clashing in a massive unholy war – you know, the usual stuff.

Although on the Xbox, the game is said to feature incredible graphics thanks to the “PAIN Engine”, which is “capable of pumping out an unbelievably high polygon count, while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques.” There’s plenty to get stuck into as well, with the single-player game supplemented with Xbox Live play for up to eight players, and additional single-player game modes.

At the moment we’re waiting for news on the European release, but it hits retail in North America on July 25 at the bargain price of $29.99.
