Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will sell double the units of EA’s Battlefield 3, according to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. He believes that the two games will notch up sales of over $1.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2011.
In terms of unit sales, Pachter predicts 16 million copies of Modern Warfare 3 sold this year and 8 million copies of Battlefield 3. Pachter also predicts that Modern Warfare 3 will significantly outsell Battlefield 3 in 2012, 8 million units to 2 million.
Despite the two games releasing at around the same time in the calendar year, Pachter believes two to three million people will buy both titles.
“I’d guess that around half of the console copies of Battlefield 3 will be bought by people who also buy Modern Warfare 3, so around 2 to 3 million will buy both,” Pachter told Forbes. “I don’t see much cannibalisation of the titles.”
