Blizzard has revealed that Lifeweaver – the newest hero arriving in Season 4 of Overwatch 2 – will be free for all players for a limited time ahead of the Overwatch 2 Lifeweaver release date next week.

The additional detail was revealed as the upcoming addition to the game’s roster was detailed by the developer ahead of the Overwatch 2 Season 4 start date next week. Players will be able to try out the new hero for a little while without having to spend a penny.

Previously players wanting to play as newly added heroes have had four options. Firstly, they can purchase that season’s battle pass and they’ll be instantly unlocked – or they can save their cash and play the game enough to level up their Battle Pass to around level 40-50 to unlock them. However, both of these methods were only valid while the season those heroes were introduced was running.

Once a season is over, the way to unlock a new hero is to either purchase them from the in-game shop, or alternatively to complete each hero’s specific Catch Up Challenges in game. So they either required a fair amount of grinding – or cold hard cash.

However, with this season, as detailed on the Overwatch blog, players will be able to ‘try’ the new hero before they buy, so to speak – as long as they play Season 4 within the first couple of weeks – and specifically “via the training room, custom games or a brand new limited time game mode known as B.O.B and Weave. “

The Xbox Wire version of the blog also revealed that Liveweaver’s arrival will also coincide with a new limited time event in Overwatch 2, celebrating the Thai New Year. Season 4 will arrive on April 11, with this event (and Lifeweaver being available for free) running through until April 24 and will also give players the chance to earn an exclusive Cassia skin for Lifeweaver.
