Overload, the six-degree-of-freedom shooter that doffs its cap to the classic 90s title Descent, will receive its full PC release on May 31, Revival Productions has announced. The title is currently available in Early Access and has been turning quite a few heads, holding a 97% rating.

In addition, the studio confirmed that Overload will also be rocking up on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the third quarter of this year. As mentioned, the game is something of a homage to Descent, although spruces up that title's iconic, labyrinthine environments to bring them up to modern standards, along with providing 'new features' and 'deeper gameplay.'

'We started Overload as a nostalgic homage to Descent, but it’s really grown into something more. We were able to create a deep story with voice, a new challenge mode and add VR support. And all this is on top of graphics and sound we could only dream about 20 years ago,' commented co-creator of Revival Productions, Mike Kulas.

In addition to the single-player campaign, which offers 15 different stages, Overload also offers up a smorgasboard of multiplayer distractions, including private and public matches for some competitive shenanigans. We're also promised a cracking soundtrack plus virtual reality compatiblity for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

'It's been a blast creating this game, and we especially value the relationships we’ve formed with our Kickstarter backers and Early Access players,' added Revival Productions' Matt Toschlog.
