Red Barrels has announced a new update for its survival horror title Outlast 2, which adds a new Story Mode that includes a bunch of content cut from the original version of the game.
Apparently, the extra scenes ended up on the cutting room floor as including them would have meant the game would have received an Adult Only rating. As such, the decision was made to scrap them to ensure Outlast 2 bagged a Mature certificate.Â
Story Mode, as you might have twigged, tones down enemy confrontations and reduces their perception, speed, and damage output. As a result, Red Barrels is promising the mode will offer ‘more room for exploration, instead of chases.’
As for the new content, the developer is keeping details close to its chest right now, although it has said that it won’t have any effect on gameplay. Presumably it’ll be on the gory side though, seeing as how it would have meant the game would receive the highest rating possible in North America.
Outlast 2 was released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One last year and made the jump to Nintendo Switch yesterday. Red Barrels is currently working on a third Outlast title, although it won’t be a direct sequel to the first two games.Â
