The developer broke the news to horror site Bloody Disgusting, revealing that work got underway shortly after the release of the Xbox One version of Outlast.

“After shipping the XB1 version of Outlast, we took some time to analyse our situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us,” said co-founder Philippe Morin. “So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.

“The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same universe as Outlast, but it will have different characters and a different setting. Outlast 2 is still a while off, the developer suggests, “but hopefully it will be worth it”.

“Our goal is still to give players first and foremost an emotional ride, so every design decision will be based on how it affects the experience and if it serves it,” Morin added. The developer chose not to confirm whether the sequel will tie into the events of the original game.

Outlast first launched on PC in 2013 before arriving on PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year. We played it on camera earlier this year and, while we found it unnerving at first, it soon started to get a little frustrating…
