Evolution Studios has been hit by a number of layoffs following the commercial failure of OnRush, reports Eurogamer.

The UK-based developer, which was snapped up by Codemasters after it was shuttered by Sony back in 2016, has seen a number of senior staff members let go, including Paul Rustchynsky, who directed PlayStation 4's troubled racer DriveClub.

Eurogamer's sources also indicate that a number of other 'senior' members of the team have lost their jobs.

One source, who wished to remain anonymous, described how the studio has been 'decapitated' by the layoffs, with senior staffers having either been fired or forced to re-interview for jobs. Junior members of the team have also been affected by the redundancies.

In addition, there were apparently long-term problems at the studio, with a source describing a lack of communication between the Evolution team and Codemasters as a whole.

OnRush attracted decent reviews but failed to set tills alight, debuting at 34 on the UK All Format Chart and reportedly flogging just 1000 copies at retail. In other words, it bombed pretty hard.

Eurogamer's report does however say that the game's post-launch slate will not be affected by the layoffs.
