Online Storage for game saves on PS3 will be available via PSN from March 10, exclusively to PlayStation Plus members, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced.
With 150MB of space available, Online Storage for game saves allows PlayStation Plus members to store game save backup data (max 1000 game saves) online.
Users will be able to access their Online Storage via XMB, under the Games icon, where they can save game data or download and pick up and play from where they left off.
Games saved in Online Storage can also be accessed by logging into their PlayStation Network account from any PS3, making it possible to download a game save to a friend’s PS3 and continue playing. Online Storage also removes the risk of losing game data if a user chooses to upgrade their console.
If a game save has copy protection PS Plus members will still be able to copy those files to Online Storage, but there will be a 24 hour delay before these saves can be download to any PS3.
PlayStation Plus costs £39.99 a year or £11.99 for 90 days.
Online Storage is unlikely to be a feature the majority of PS3 gamers will use, but it’s yet another great additional feature which forms the increasingly more useful PlayStation Plus service.
