While the 2010 Tekken movie went straight to DVD (not usually a good sign), a prequel is in development according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The good news is that the new film, Tekken: Rise of the Tournament, is being helmed by Ong Bak director Prachya Pinkaew, which gives us some hope that the action will be decent if the film studio allows for bone-crunching violence.

What’s more, instead of aiming for big names, the studio is planning to find actors who resemble the key characters from the fighting game franchise – presumably some will require additional costumes and make-up.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be released in September on PS3 and Xbox 360.
