You can now play the original Diablo entirely in a web browser, more than 26 years after it brought PCs to their knees. After decades of ending productivity, Blizzard’s amazing ARPG debut is now easily playable on almost any modern device.

Following source ports to devices such as the PlayStation Vita and 3DS, Diablo’s newest port is one of its coolest. Instead of having to install the game anywhere, you can now simply boot up the award-winning RPG on your browser whenever you want.

Diablo Anywhere and Everywhere

Thanks to source code reconstructor GalaXyHaXz and the team behind Devilution, Diablo can be played right here. The web port allows players to boot up either the shareware version of the game for free, or input their own DIABDAT.MPQ file from an official install. This means that the entirety of the classic RPG is playable within a browser.

Alongside the full game, you can also input your save file. If you’ve already spent hundreds of hours slaying beasts and earning loot, you can also upload your personal save file. If you’re hopping between different devices, you’ll be able to continue the grind no matter where you go.

For those limited to the shareware version, Diablo on browser is far more limited. In this version, you can only use the game’s Warrior class. However, you can still enjoy the game’s brilliant point-and-click-esque dungeon-delving combat.

What about the sequel?

At the time of writing, only the first Diablo can be played in a browser tab. However, considering that Diablo 2 source code is also available, a browser port of the second game could become available in the future. Lord of Destruction in a Chrome tab? Yes please!

With no official remaster of the original Diablo game, it’s up to awesome source ports like this to keep the spirit of the original alive. Nowadays, the debut Diablo title is now available to play on the majority of modern devices, quickly becoming the new DOOM.
