Michael Salvatori, the co-composer of the original Halo and Destiny soundtracks, is reportedly back at Bungie. Following new studio images of behind-the-scenes projects, it appears that the composer is back at the studio.
Salvatori, an iconic musical force behind the two Destiny games, was laid off from Bungie back in 2023. Since then, numerous composers have been behind the still-great music for the popular MMO, but many have been calling for Salvatori’s return.
Michael Salvatori seemingly returns to Destiny
Via The Game Post, new images from Destiny’s Pieter Schlosser and orchestrator Ella Feingold shared on Instagram appear to show Salvatori working on new Destiny 2 music at Ocean Way Nashville Studios. This studio is the exact same place where Bungie typically records the score for their games.
The images show a document which appears to be new Destiny msuic listing Michael Salvatori as the “composer” right next to Feingold as the “orchestrator”. Schlosser’s post included the caption: “not to brag, but I get to work with these two legends.”
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Salvatori is back providing the music for Destiny 2, but it does appear very likely. While Destiny 2 has continued to have great music despite the underwhelming gameplay content and dwindling player counts, it has certainly lacked the signature style of its older tunes.
Judging by the time of recording, it would appear that Salvatori’s new music is set to launch alongside the upcoming Renegades expansion. Renegades, which is set to launch in December 2025, brings the universe of Star Wars to the MMO with a story that inspired by the legendary sci-fi franchise.
With Bungie claiming that this new era of Destiny 2 is set to bring players back to the feelings of the original game, Salvatori’s return to the series would be an amazing fit. As we return back to the mystery of OG Destiny, the original composer’s themes should bring back a flood of feelings for long-time fans.
