Oculus Rift has been withdrawn from sale in China after it was discovered the device was being excessively resold, thus taking units out of the hands of legitimate developers.
An Oculus representative shared the news on Reddit.
“Yes, it is a bummer that we’ve had to suspend sales in China due to extreme reseller purchases,” explained the rep.
“We need to make sure that we are doing what we can to make sure that resellers that are looking to flip our product for a profit are not taking stock away from legitimate developer purchases globally.
“Our product, in its current form, is a developer kit, meant for developers that develop VR content.”
Those in China who really want a Rift have been told to wait for the consumer version.
The updated Oculus Rift, DK2, recently launched costing $350.
