While The Elder Scrolls IV: Remastered launched without mod support for players to toy with, modders have already figured out how to alter the game with new scripts.
First, we saw modders bring Pokemon-like monster catching mechanics to the world of Cyrodil. Now, players have added the controversial Fallout 4 settlement system to the fantasy RPG.
Oblivion Remastered adopts Fallout settlements
Still in an early stage, MadAborModding’s new Oblivion Settlement Building mod allows players to “spawn and place objects” to create their own towns and villages around Cyrodil.
Available to install on both the Steam and Xbox Store/Game Pass version of the game, the mod allows players to scroll through a list of in-game assets and place them as they wish. Everything from single pillars to entire structures can be placed down to construct the town of your dreams.
At the time of writing, the mod only allows you to build settlements, not actually invite and host NPCs within them. As modders still figure out how to play with Oblivion Remastered restrictions, MadAborModding has made his project open source to encourage others to help expand the mod.
“I hope someone expands this into an actual settlement system,” the modder explained. “My goal with uploading this is hopefully to bait someone into doing that. (I want that kind of mod, but I don’t want to be the one to make it lol).”
“In all seriousness, I’d be willing to collaborate and continue work on this,” the modder continued. “Feel free to reach out if interested!”
While the mod allows players to build beautiful settlements with the game’s assets, there’s also no menu system to choose what you want to use. Instead, players have to flick through all 12,000 assets in Oblivion Remastered with keyboard shortcuts which sounds very exhausting for massive environments.
Nevertheless, Oblivion Remastered players are trying very hard to bring the same beautiful modding scene of all past Elder Scrolls games to the new remaster.
