Nvidia to power next Sony console

While not explicitly saying that this device is the PlayStation 3, it seems odds on that this is the case. Details on the GPU are very thin on the ground, but it is to be manufactured at Sony Group’s Nagasaki Fab2 as well as OTSS (joint fabrication facility of Toshiba and Sony).

Microsoft is currently using a custom Nvidia GPU in the Xbox, but they have switched to Nvidia’s rival, ATI, for their next console. Sony’s agreement with Nvidia is said to span a number of devices for release in the future, all using the Cell processor in combination with Nvidia’s GPU.

There is no doubt that this announcement will start rumours of the PlayStation 3’s technical specs spreading like wildfire amongst internet forums, but no specifics have been made available. We will have more news as it becomes available.
