Microsoft confirmed what many folks feared earlier this week when they announced that co-operative campaign play will only be available on a single Xbox via the tried-and-trusty split-screen method, rather than through Xbox Live or over a system link.

The multiplayer options still promise to be something special

Of course, the game will still ship with a slew of multiplayer modes that are designed for system link, Live or on a single box (of which four players can cram around). And lest we not forget the single-player game (details of which have been fiercely guarded by Bungie), which will still be a draw for a huge number of people.

So, with little under two weeks to go until release – despite this setback – you can now officially start to get excited. You know you want to.
