Nioh 2 received an update on the PlayStation blog, which shared artwork of the new protagonist, screenshots of enemies, and details on the demo headed for the Tokyo Game Show next month.

Team Ninja’s creative director Tom Lee thanked the 50,000 players who partook in the alpha demo, and those who added to their feedback in the survey. This information was then vital to shaping Nioh 2 into the game that will be showcased at the Tokyo Game Show in September. ‘I can’t really disclose the specifics at this point, but more details will definitely be coming down the pipe soon,’ Lee stated, ‘So stay tuned Yokai hunters! And prepare to unleash your darkness as Nioh 2 is on the horizon!’

The new protagonist in Nioh 2 was revealed to be a half-human, half-Yokai samurai warrior. This hybridity will offer unique combat abilities and bring him into the Dark Realm of the Yokai, which increases his monstrous power at the expense of his human form. A few of the baddies that players will encounter were shown off in screenshots, like the Enenra and the Nure-onna. Enenra is a fiery demon that towers over all, and Nure-onna takes the shape of a serpentine lady with a paralysing gaze.

Nioh 2 still doesn’t have a release date, but surely one will be revealed soon, given this update and its demo appearance next month. Watch this space.
