Nintendo has announced that its net income for the year ending March 31, 2011, fell from 1 trillion yen to 77.6 billion yen.

The company announced that the Wii has now sold in excess of 86 million units worldwide – 15 million of those sales coming in fiscal 2011. Nintendo DS models shifted 17.5 million units combined, and the 3DS moved 3.6 million.

On the software front, the DS moved 120.98 million units, 3DS 9.43 million and Wii 171.26 million.

Given the slowdown in Wii sales it’s no surprise that Nintendo has announced a new console for 2012. The company will be hoping that a strong end to 2011 for the 3DS will help turn around its fortunes.
