Nintendo of America has said it plans on ironing out an issue regarding Switch owners losing their playtime data for launch games.
The problem was flagged up over the weekend on Resetera and Reddit, with owners of Ninty’s hybrid powerhouse revealing their console no longer displayed playtime on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Further digging revealed that games over a year old — remember, Switch celebrated its 1st birthday earlier this month — were prone to having their playtime data erased.
Not long after, Nintendo Force, a fan publication, revealed that the Switch did not in fact remove the data; instead, it simply disappears for 10 days before returning on the eleventh day. Quite why this happens is anyone’s guess, but the Big N itself has now acknowledged the issue, promising a fix is inbound.
Some Nintendo Switch owners’ play activity info is displaying incorrectly, but play activity is still being recorded accurately in the background. A future system update will resolve this issue & ensure play time data is correctly displayed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
