Nintendo Switch was the best-selling home console in the US for July 2018, the NPD Group has announced (via GameSpot).

While Ninty's system was the top performer in terms of units sold for last month, the PlayStation 4 still takes the crown as the best-selling console for 2018 so far. Xbox One also had a solid month, with sales up nearly 60% year-on-year.

On the software front, Switch-exclusive RPG Octopath Traveler topped the multiformat chart for July, fending off competition from the ubiquitous Grand Theft Auto V, Mario Kart 8, and Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

It's a pretty impressive accomplishment for a platform-exclusive title, especially as the NPD figures do not track digital sales.

Sony announced at the end of last month that the PS4 has shipped over 82 million units worldwide since November 2013, although Microsoft is still keeping mum on how well Xbox One is performing.

The Switch meanwhile has been doing pretty well since it launched in March 2017, with nearly 20 million units sold worldwide.
