Nintendo Switch has become Nintendo’s best-selling system at launch across Europe, the platform holder has announced.
We already knew Switch sold approximately 80,000 units in the UK, double that of the Wii U at launch.
“We can confirm that, across Europe, Nintendo Switch sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history,” said Nintendo in a statement.
It’s great news for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild too.
“Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has not only been bestowed with some of the highest review scores in gaming history, it’s also the biggest-selling Nintendo launch title ever in Europe, even outselling Wii Sports in first weekend sales.”
Remember that Wii Sports was a pack-in title for the extremely successful Nintendo Wii.
And don’t forget that Switch launched in March, which Nintendo points out to be a “traditionally … quiet time for the games industry”.
Things are certainly starting brightly for the Switch, with the system also breaking US launch records for Nintendo, whilst performing solidly in Japan.
