Following information emerging from an IGN podcast, Nintendo has cleared up some of the details revealed about its Wii Software service (known as WiiWare outside of Europe).
The podcast claims that Wii Software releases will have a file size limit of 40MB, developers will set their own prices and would be limited to releasing only one game per month.
Speaking to Eurogamer, a Nintendo spokesperson has offered further details in an effort to clarify the earlier information.
“I can confirm as we originally said at the announcement of the Wii Ware service earlier in the year that Wii Ware games will come in a range of sizes but we will encourage smaller, more compact games for the service,” said the Nintendo spokesperson. “I can also confirm we are contemplating that developers will be able to release one game per month during the launch window in order for us to address potential volume issues.“
As far as pricing for the Wii Software Channel goes, the spokesperson says that Nintendo has “not revealed any details about who sets pricing for Wii Ware titles,” but notes “it is important to remember that one of the keys aspects of the Wii Ware service is to allow everyone access to fresh, new content at a low price“.
The Wii Software Channel is set to launch in 2008.
