Peter Molyneux, Lionhead founder and former Microsoft Game Studios Europe boss, believes Nintendo must really impress onlookers with the Wii U at E3.

“Nintendo’s slightly lack lustre Wii U is going to have to blow us away with better specs and great 1st party line up,” Molyneux told Kotaku following an announcement that he’ll be offering analysis of E3 on Spike TV.

Of his former employer and its chief rival, Molyneux said: “Sony and Microsoft are holding their breath on next gen – interesting to see how they pad out another year. Price cuts, form factors?”

The Fable creator even went as far as to question the need for E3 altogether.

“Is the biggest news that E3 itself runs the risk of being outdated, or perhaps it already is?” he added. “The real challenge is how the players are going to adapt to the mounting pressure of Facebook, Apple, Social, Cloud, Multi-Gaming.”

E3 kicks off in little more than two weeks.
