Nintendo has posted its sales figures for the nine month period ending December 31, 2008, revealing global sales of 1,536 billion yen, up 17 per cent over the same period in 2007. Nintendo has also reported operating profits of 501 billion yen, a 27 per cent increase over the same period in 2007.

Nintendo also offered up to date sales figures for the Nintendo DS and Wii. Total life to date shipments for Nintendo DS now stand at 96,220,000 units with unit sales in the period April-December 2008 of 25,620,000 units – approximately one million more than in the same period in 2007. Life to date shipments of Nintendo DS software stands at 533 million units.

Wii achieved a much more significant sales increase, up from 14,290,000 in the nine month period in 2007 to 20,520,000 for the same period in 2008. Life to date shipments of Wii now stand at 44,960,000 units. Nintendo also noted that Mario Kart Wii has now shipped 13.67 million units worldwide.
