Nintendo has announced new models of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL, due to go on sale in Japan this October.
The new models feature an upgraded CPU and a new second analogue stick, alongside additional ZR and ZL shoulder buttons.
NFC support is also being built in directly to the unit, removing the need for an additional add-on for players looking to pick up Nintendo’s upcoming range of Amiibo characters.
3D support is being improved, too, reducing the effect of image distortion when a player moves their head or their console.

Due to the upgraded CPU, certain games will allegedly only be compatible with the new 3DS, apparently including an upcoming Xenoblade title.
But despite launching in Japan this side of Christmas, the two units reportedly won’t reach the UK until 2015. If you were looking to pick up a 3DS this Christmas, it might be worth reconsidering…
Nintendo has yet to formally announce a price for the console outside of Japan.
