Shawn Levy, director of all three Night at the Museum movies (the third to open this holiday) is said to be in talks to helm Warner Bros’ adaptation Minecraft, Variety reports.
Warner acquired the rights to the hot video game property back in February, with Roy Lee of LEGO Movie fame producing via his Vertigo Entertainment banner. Lee helped turn the world’s most famous brick brand into a movie franchise after the film earned over $450 million worldwide. Warner will be hoping Lee can work his magic on Minecraft.
Reports back in February said the Minecraft movie would be live action.
Since Warner acquired the movie rights, Microsoft took control of the Minecraft IP and its developer Mojang in a deal worth $2.5 billion.
